Hearing Aids

Analogue Hearing Aids are an older type of hearing aid which many will be familiar with. These are rather limited compared to the performance and features of newer digital types, and provide little control over the experience of hearing. They cannot separate desired sounds from background noise and can look bulky, ill-fitting and indiscreet.

Digital Hearing Aids offer clearer sound quality using coded sound, which allows computer software to help with the experience of hearing. This means that the volume of background noise which many struggle with in older hearing aids can be turned down automatically, all the time, without having to fiddle with buttons. As well as giving a clearer hearing experience, digital technology allows hearing aids to be smaller and slimmer, so that they feel more comfortable and look more discreet. Since hearing aids can only assist hearing by being worn all day every day, the many digital versions are a better choice for many who want something comfortable and individually suited. Advance Hearing's modern digital hearing aids come in the following types:

CIC Hearing Aids

Completely Inside Canal hearing aids are extremely discreet because of their small size and fitting.

ITC Hearing Aids

ITC Hearing Aids

In The Canal types of hearing aid sit mainly inside the ear and are custom-moulded to individual ear canals for a perfect fit. The small control remains just outside the ear canal for the finger to reach, which may make this type well-suited to those with narrower ear canals or problems with finger movement, who would still prefer a more discreet style of hearing aid.

ITE Hearing Aids

ITE Hearing Aids

In The Ear types of hearing aid sit closely in the bowl of the ear. Since this part of the ear is different in everyone, the plastic casing is moulded to your ear for complete comfort. While the hearing aid speaker faces directly in to the ear canal and does not involve a thin tube, it still remains in the outer ear and does not actually fit inside the canal itself. This may make the ITE type a desirable compromise for those who want something more discreet, but may want to avoid smaller in-canal types.

RIC, BTE and OTE Hearing Aids

RIC, BTE and OTE Hearing Aids

Receiver In Canal, Behind The Ear and Over The Ear hearing aids hold their components in a slim plastic casing which sits on the back of the outer ear. A clear plastic tube carries digitally amplified sounds in to the ear canal through a receiver or custom made ear-mould. These types may be well-suited to those who have usually worn an older hearing aid around the back of the ear, rather than inside it, but would prefer something slimmer and lighter. The shape and position of the casing can offer extra features like Sweep technology and increased water resistance as seen in S Series hearing aids. These days this type of hearing aid can be colour coded to match your hair colour so as to camouflage the unit.

Pairing up

Those who use two hearing aids, known as binaural users, experience many benefits. Improved balance is one. Greater understanding and a more rounded hearing experience are further advantages. If you’re considering the use of two hearing aids, we've put together five simple reasons that we hope might help.
